Segal Institute for Clinical Research Board-Certified and Board-Eligible Adult Psychiatrists conduct Phase II-IV outpatient research studies for most central nervous system disorders and addiction disorders. Segal Institute's success is largely due to the volume of patients seen by the clinicians at its sister company, Compass Health Systems. Compass Health Systems is the largest provider of mental health services in each of the communities where its practices are located. The outpatient practices and outpatient research sites are located in Charleston, Denver and South Florida.

The South Florida Compass Health Systems network of over 50 professionals routinely refers subjects to the Segal Institute South Florida Principal Investigators. In 2009, more than 6,000 adults were treated for CNS and addiction disorders at the five South Florida Compass Health Systems outpatient offices. Currently, more than 80 new patients are seen each week. The vast number of patients seen at Compass combined with a population of 4,000,000 in South Florida enables unprecedented subject recruitment at the South Florida Segal Institute outpatient sites.

In Denver, the Compass Colorado Health Systems network of 10 clinicians saw approximately 1,100 adult outpatients for most CNS and addiction disorders in 2008. Denver has seen an increase in its unemployment rate during the past year, reaching 7.7% as of September 2009. As a result, reports of depression and addiction have become more prevalent throughout the Colorado mental health care system. The Segal Institute outpatient clinic has enjoyed a rapid expansion since its inception.

In South Carolina, the Compass Carolina Health Systems network of 10 clinicians saw approximately 1,100 adult outpatients in 2008. South Carolina is home to 9 major military bases, including those serving the Marines, the Army, the Navy, the Air Force, and the Coast Guard. The large population of military personnel in the area has contributed to a high number of reported outpatient cases of anxiety disorders, such as PTSD, and addiction in Charleston. Segal Institute has research offices directly on site at the Compass Carolina clinic facilitating subject enrollment.
